    Mr. Neal Haugen
    Neal Haugen is in his 20th year as director of the Willmar High School Choirs and thirty-fifth year in education.  He also direct the Cardinal Choir, Varsity Choir, Camerata Men’s Choir and “2701” Jazz Choir.  He is the assistant director for the 9th Grade Choir, Choralaires Women’s Choir and co-directs an annual Fall Musical.  Neal grew up in Hannaford North Dakota.  He began his teaching career in Milnor, North Dakota where he taught K-12 Vocal and Instrumental Music.  Neal enjoyed nine years of teaching at the Willmar Junior High before moving to the high school.  
    Neal holds a BA from Concordia College, Moorhead where he studied conducting under Dr. Paul J. Christiansen and a Masters in Choral Conducting from SCSU,where he studied with Dr. Lee Nelson and Dr. Matthew Ferrell.  
    Neal's wife, Julene, teaches Communications at the Willmar Middle School. Together they direct the WHS Musicals each fall. They have four children, Kalene (Grant) Sharstrom, Trey (Mary), Elise and Cameron.  

    The Cardinal Choir is one of six curricular and co-curricular choirs at Willmar High School and is comprised of juniors and seniors.  The majority of the members are also involved in band and/or orchestra. The choir has earned consistent “superior” ratings at contest and festivals.  Performances in New York, DC, Pearl Harbor, Disneyland, Mexico and the Bahamas highlight the choirs past tours with the band and orchestra. 

    The Cardinal Choir has also performed at MMEA in 2013.  The Choir has been invited to perform again this winter at the 2019 MMEA Convention in Minneapolis.  Their performance will be February 14th, at Central Lutheran Church, downtown Minneapolis.
