Student Activity Funds
GENERAL INFORMATION
Minnesota public schools are supported primarily by state and local taxes, with some programs completely or partially financed by federal funds. Individual schools may also generate revenues from athletic and academic events, concessions, donations, and other school activities.
A well-designed activity program will enrich the quality of the curriculum, provide new learning experiences, encourage interest in classroom work, and strengthen morale and discipline. The opportunity for students to participate in the planning and execution of activities is a life-preparation experience.
It is critical that these funds be governed by a set of legally consistent and financially sound principles, and that the accounting of the funds that support these activities be beyond reproach. The Willmar Senior High School Student Activity Funds office implements an efficient system of accounting, governed by the statutes and required practices in THE MANUAL FOR THE UNIFORM FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING AND REPORTING STANDARDS (UFARS) FOR MINNESOTA SCHOOLS as outlined in THE MANUAL FOR ACTIVITY FUND ACCOUNTING (MAFA) for all money received and expended through the school system from these non-tax sources.
If you have questions, or would like more information, about the Student Activity Funds office, please contact Donna Brau 320.231.8316 at the Senior High office.
