National Honor Society

National Honor Society acceptance letters will be sent out Monday and/ or Tuesday, November 1 & 2.  Please contact  Mr. Lyle Hovland at the High School, if you applied and have not received a letter by November 7th.

The NHS motto is Noblesse Oblige, a French phrase literally meaning “nobility obligates”. In broader terms, it signifies that those of high rank have the obligation to behave honorably, generously, and responsibly toward others.

For many students, selection to the National Honor Society is the pinnacle of their achievements in school. Selection to the National Honor Society is a privilege, not a right. Students do not apply for NHS membership; rather students provide information to be used by the faculty selection committee to support their candidacy for membership. The National Honor Society is more than just an honor roll. The components of selection not only include scholarship, but also the demonstration of leadership, service and character.

Students who have been in attendance at Willmar Senior High School for at least one semester AND have achieved a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.75 at the end of the 4th term of their sophomore or junior year, are eligible for selection to National Honor Society.

Membership will be granted only to those students selected by the faculty council.  The faculty council will meet once yearly to induct academically eligible students who have turned in a resume and who meet the criteria for membership. This decision will be decided based upon the student’s contribution to the school and community in terms of leadership, service and character.

APPLICATIONS for 2010 Membership are DUE by 3PM on Wednesday, October 20, 2010.

They can be turned into the main office or to Mr. Hovland in room 115A.
