New Coaching staff for 2010-11 Season!
There has been two coaching changes for the upcoming season.
Jeff Winter has been hired to be the Varsity coach. Coach Winter comes with a plethora of soccer playing and coaching experience. Most recenly, he has been the varsity coach on the girls' side of the program for the past three years. He has also been the girls' JV coach, coached at the middle school, and coached at Tech HS in the late 1990s. As a player, Coach Winter has 34 years of experience and soccer has taken him all over the world. He is excited to take the reigns of the boys' program and looks forward to the first day of practice on August 16, 2010.
J.J. Johnson, a youth pastor at New London Covenant Church, has been hired to be the JV - I coach. J.J. comes to the program with a wealth of knowledge in both soccer and teenagers. J.J. has been a coach in the Twin Cities, specofically working with goalkeepers. WHS will be asking him to work with goalkeepers from all levels and from both the boys' and girls' programs.
Brad Haugen, who has been with the boys' program for four years, will remain as the JV - II coach, working mainly with the ninth grade students. Welcome back, Brad, as our stability in this time of transition.
2010 Season
The 2010 season will begin on Monday, August 16th, 2010. Players and families can expect a letter in the mail over the course of the summer that will outline when and where practices are held, as well as what to bring to practices.
MSHSL Update
The Minnesota State High School League recently voted to shorten the HS soccer season by two matches. Beginning in the 2011 soccer season, schools will be allowed to play a maximum of 16 matches in the regular season. This is down from the maximum of 18 matches currently allowed by the MSHSL. This will effect WHS boys' soccer significantly without changes in how we schedule matches with out conference, the Central Lakes Conference (CLC). Our section (for playoffs) is completely different from our conference and therefore we do not see many of our section foes prior to the playoffs. The change in the number of allowed matches will effect our non-conference schedule. We will have to schedule fewer section matches which could potentially effect our seeding for the playoffs.
MSHSL Rule Change
Beginning in the 20011 season, goalkeepers will have to wear numbers on their jerseys, which vary from the rest of the team. Also, home uniforms for field players will need to be mainly white in color.
