Band Directors
Terry Brau grew up in Redwood Falls, MN and performed professionally on trumpet, saxophone, and clarinet with his father's dance band while still in high school.  While attending college at the University of Minnesota, he played in back-up bands for Dizzy Gillespie, Thad Jones, Elvin Jones, Clark Terry, Phil Woods, and Myron Floren.  He is probably the only student to perform in the top university wind ensemble on trumpet and the top jazz band on tenor saxophone, clarinet, and flute.  He studied trumpet with David Baldwin and Ronald Hasselman and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1978. He has been a teacher for 33 years - 31 of those in Willmar.  He is married and has a teenage son.

Bryan Mara grew up in Rockford, IL.  At the age of 14, he auditioned for and became a member of Phantom Regiment and toured nationally for the next seven summers.  He later joined their staff and helped the corps realize a 30-year dream in 1996 when they became World Champions.  While attending college, he broke all stereotypes by playing football while earning his music degree at St. Norbert College, in De Pere, WI.  He earned his Masters of Education from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  He has 17 years teaching experience in Minnesota and Wisconsin and just finished his sixth year in Willmar.  He is married and has two children.

Both Mr. Brau and Mr. Mara are members of the Music Educators National Conference, the Minnesota Music Educators Association, and the Minnesota Education Association.
