Letter from Mr. Miley:
On behalf of the entire faculty, we would like to welcome you to the Willmar Middle School Web Site. The Willmar Middle School takes great pride in fostering a welcoming environment for all our students, staff and community. We are located in the heart of Willmar and are proud of our building and campus now in our 42nd year. Recent updates have brought forth many comments that the building looks brand new! A highlight when visiting the middle school will be the addition of poster size pictures of our students throughout our hallways, refinishing the gymnasium floor, renovating and painting our cafeteria, landscaping the courtyard, to many other improvements. Whether you are new to our district or have not been at the middle school in some time, please stop in for a tour of our beautiful school.
We are extremely excited that the school board approved moving towards a “TEAM” curriculum delivery system in 2007-2008. Our delivery system offers additional time for math and communications rotating 90 minutes one day and 45 minutes the next. The teams consist of teachers for Communications/Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies. Our elective classes afford students the possibilities of exploring their talents. We offer Art, Health, Physical Education, Gateway To Technology, Computer Exploration, and Family and Consumer Science. Also, we offer a comprehensive music experience for students that could include Band, Choir, and Orchestra. Students who wish to expand their musical talents can also participate in our Jazz Band.
Willmar Middle School works very hard at creating a learning environment that is safe and fits the needs of the early adolescent, while focusing on their academic learning. We have created a carefully designed program so that each child is given opportunities to develop and grow intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically. Each week our staff conducts meetings to address the individual needs of each student.
Of special note, we have recently updated our technology throughout the building that includes 3 computer labs in our media center, new computerized Read 180 Program, a computer lab for classes, Gateway To Technology Computer Lab for Project Lead the Way, wireless capabilities throughout the building, social and science portable computer labs, and SMART Boards in almost every room.
There is something for everyone at Willmar Middle School from our many co-curricular activities and athletics, a Musical, Art Club, Math League, Smart Club, Breakfast Club for morning lifting too much, much, more!
