A Message from the Superintendent

The start of school is right around the corner, and with that new beginning comes the anticipation of an academic year filled with exciting learning opportunities for all the children and families we serve. Principals, teachers and staff in the Willmar Public strive to ensure our schools are welcoming, friendly, with an engaging learning environment – from the curb to the classroom – on your child’s first day and every day of the school year.
My desire is to work in partnership with parents to do what is best for all children across the district. Without that partnership, it is difficult to build on the District’s Strategic Goals. And, while we count on your support; we also know that in any partnership we have to earn it by being open, thoughtful, communicative, and transparent.
As a District, there is no greater satisfaction than working with and teaching young people. To instill in a child a sense of belonging is gratifying beyond measure to all of us. This District is committed to helping each child discover new thoughts and ideas, and we value how exciting that voyage of discovery is to each student. . You can help us kick off a successful year of great learning by carefully preparing for the first day of school. But don’t stop there – consider the many other ways you can help throughout the year. They are numerous and we welcome your assistance. Help be a guide on that voyage of discovery for students.
2011-12 will be a challenge for the district. The outcome of an important election in November will determine if the community supports renewal of the district’s ten year old operating levy. The levy’s success or failure will determine the educational programs for a generation of young people in the Willmar Public Schools.
As William James said, “every good worth possessing must be paid for in strokes of daily effort.” It is my commitment that each day in this District, there will be broad brush strokes of daily effort to build the skills students need to succeed in life.
During the upcoming school year, as parents and community members have questions or need information on specific topics they are requested to contact my office at 231-8510 to talk with me directly. You should also contact building principals or specific program directors directly with your questions or concerns.
Take the time to explore the learning and support opportunities available in District 347. You will come to know a great deal about the district and the values of the communities we serve. You will get a sense of our excitement, spirit, pride, and dedication as well as a snapshot of the District’s vision and purpose.
Willmar Public Schools is proud to be an important and vital part of this community and looks forward to building new partnerships and expanding existing ones.
HAVE A GREAT 2011-12 SCHOOL YEAR!
