Roosevelt Elementary School is located in southwest Willmar. Roosevelt is a public school serving students in fourth through sixth grades.

Our diverse population consists of nearly 700 students. Our experienced and enthusiastic teaching staff has been trained to address each area of a students' needs, resulting in increased student achievement. Sixty-eight percent of our teachers hold Master's degrees and 72% have over ten years of teaching experience. We love enriching young minds.

Roosevelt's goals are to improve reading comprehension across the curriculum and to enhance math computation skills. Each yeaer, our students take the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment in reading, math and writing. Students also take Northwest Evaluation Assessments in the areas of math and reading twice a year, to measure their individual progress. Test results help Roosevelt determine each student's stregths and areas for improvements in those subjects.

Roosevelts is strongly committed to integrating technology with learning. All students participate in a technology class as part of their curriculum, and streaming videos are available in all classrooms to enhance instruction. Technology is an integral part of Science instruction. General art, music and pysical education classes are also part of the students' curriculum.

Programs & Services

Roosevelt's extra-curricular opportunities include a strong commitment to the arts, with orchestra available to students in the 4th grade, and band and choir offered in 5th and 6th grade.

Students have the opporunity to take part in several academic competitions throughout the school year. They participate at the regional and state levels in Math League, Math Masters, Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Minnesota History Day and Destination Imagination. Some students are also invited to partake in regional writing, technology and/or art workshops.

Student Opportunities

Roosevelt offers leadership opportunities for students through participation in Student Council, a student newspaper, and rural Youth Leaders.

Through programs such as the Child Guide Program or ENGAGE, an intervention that is tailored to a child's success, students can be connected with a variety of community assets, such as academic assistance, school activities, and art and music opportunities throughout the community. These programs help children build relationships, enhance academic skills, and connect students to their learning environment.

After School reading and math Students are encouraged to improve their math and reading skills. In addition to small group instruction, students are encouraged to practice their skills and explore the joy of reading. Roosevelt Math Minds focuses on acquiring math confidence and competence.

Fun Club Offered after school until 4:00 p.m. at Roosevelt, students get help with their homework, make crafts, play board games and expend some energy in the gym.
