Compared with many professions, teachers are viewed by some as overworked and taken for granted, while performing almost daily miracles in their classrooms. As a nation, we are considered to have among the best-educated citizens in the world, and for that - we have teachers to thank. Our country's education system can be enhanced by showing respect for teachers and by letting them know how much their contribution to America’s strengths are valued.

Dr. Jerry Kjergaard, Superintendent:
Public school systems across Minnesota and the nation face unrelenting examination and financial pressure. Education experts and government leaders enthusiastically suggest all kinds of ways to strengthen our education system. One suggested means to improve schools is by showing respect and support for teachers. There are public school teachers in our schools and in each district across the state doing an outstanding job teaching our most precious commodity—our children.

This week, November 16-20, has been set aside as American Education Week to focus attention on the many outstanding educators whose work deserves applause. Please contribute to the efforts of improving our schools and reinforcing the quality of education in our community by recognizing teachers for the significant role they play in our lives and the well being of our nation. Please take a moment and say "Thanks" to our community’s teachers for the job they do.
