ALC PHILOSOPHY
The educational philosophy at the Willmar Area Learning Center encompasses the same fundamental premises and values as those of Independent School District No. 347. Students are required to meet graduation requirements equivalent to those of the district.
The primary purpose of the Willmar Area Learning Center is to help our students grow as well-rounded individuals. We believe that competency in academic, social, and life skills is necessary in order for one to live and work as a responsible citizen. To be productive citizens we believe people need to have a healthy self-esteem, interact appropriately with others, and exhibit consistent disciplined behavior. It is our belief that successful experiences in the classroom, social activities, and employment opportunities develop and enhance these qualities.
The Willmar ALC provides a comprehensive array of services designed to meet our students needs, skills, and learning styles. We are committed to using a variety of creative and individualized methods for those who have not experienced success within traditional school programs.
The administration and faculty of the Willmar ALC believe that regular school attendance is a significant and valuable component of a student's education. Regular attendance is correlated to successful and timely academic progress. Students are asked to schedule meetings and appointments at times other than scheduled class time.
Students who fail to attend on a regular basis without an excused absence may be dropped from the program.
